Why I Prefer Online Shopping Over In-Store Purchases

Hello Grasshoppa,

As I examine my recent shopping patterns, I’ve noticed a gradual shift from in-store shopping to online shopping over the years. I can’t recall my last local in-store purchase because, for local shopping, I have completely transitioned to online channels. I only resort to in-store purchases when I’m traveling. When I began to investigate why I’ve turned to online shopping over in-store shopping, I realized it’s influenced significantly by my spending habits and the time I have available.

So, why did I make the change to online shopping?

1. Save Money
Whether it’s clothing, shoes, household items, or dry groceries, I tend to gravitate toward online shopping as it often allows me to save more money compared to in-store purchases. Platforms like Zalora, Shopee, and even official brand websites frequently offer promotions. All I need to do is wait for these promotions to buy the same items at a lower cost.
2. Wide Selection
Online shopping provides me with an extensive range of choices. Once I’ve identified what I want to purchase, I can access a wide selection of items. I can even compare different products before making my final choice.

3. Save Time & 24/7 Availability
The nearest mall to my home requires a 30-minute drive. Instead of dealing with back-and-forth travel, I can save time by opting for online shopping. Malls typically have fixed operating hours, usually between 10 am and 10 pm daily. However, online shopping allows me to make purchases at any time that suits me. This flexibility was especially handy when I purchased a latex pillow on a night when I couldn’t sleep.
4. Avoiding Crowds
Crowds are a common sight in malls, especially during weekends. Online shopping allows me to bypass these crowds, creating a more peaceful and efficient shopping experience.

Conclusion:

However, there are situations where in-store shopping remains relevant, and I occasionally opt for it. Some purchases demand immediate availability, and I can’t afford to wait for a few days. In such cases, I must physically visit a store. Additionally, I’ve experimented with purchasing fresh groceries online, but I found it to be unreliable because the items may not meet my freshness standards. When I shop in-store for groceries, I can personally select fresh products and assess their quality, a level of control that’s challenging to achieve online. The future of online shopping is evolving and expanding. We can anticipate improvements in delivery times and the optimization of product freshness, particularly in the grocery sector. When these aspects are enhanced, we will likely see more consumers transition from in-store shopping to online shopping.
