Currently, we are transitioning from being in a pandemic to an endemic. During this time, many of us are going through a tough phase of our lives where some have lost their income stream but on the bright side, some have managed to turn things around & make money from it. Times are tough but those that able to turn things around are able to strive despite the hard situation that is faced by them.
Since I am part owner of a martial art gym, my gym has experienced almost 10 months of closure since March 2020. Despite the loss of income, fixed expenses like rental still need to be paid. Thankfully our current tenant is kind enough to provide a certain amount of rebate for us in order for us to survive during this period. The finger tape business has also slowed down since the sports that use finger tape such as BJJ & Rock Climbing were also not allowed during this period. With the inactivity of my gym & finger tape business, I have decided to create my YouTube channel where I share Personal Finance, Investment & BJJ tips to fill up my free time.
There are also many individuals that have found new ways to earn extra or replace their income during this period I have noticed a few platforms that people are using to generate extra income.
Sojimart
It is a Facebook group where sellers meet customers. What I like about Sojimart is, it is a spam-free platform where sellers & customers need to comply with the group rules. Some of the rules include stating the price of each product or food. In this platform, many entrepreneurs are able to make extra income while some have successfully turned it into a full-time income. A Rock Climbing gym owner managed to use this platform to make extra income by selling Sushi Rice. With the temporary closure of his gym, he needs extra income to pay for his gym rental & his income from the Sushi Rice manage to help him cover his gym expenses.
Shopee & Lazada
Many Shopee & Lazada sellers are also able to make extra income from selling on these platforms. There was a guy that managed to earn extra money from just selling perfume on Shopee. After his Shopee store has gone viral, he even contributed back to the community by sponsoring bus tickets to fellow Malaysians who want to go back to their hometown after long months of FMCO.
You can watch my interview with him below:
Aside from Uncle Foo’s story, there is another guy named Khairulaming where he is selling his famous Sambal Nyet. Guess what, his Sambal usually sold out within the first 1 minute of each release.
Facebook Live Selling
There are also many sellers that are able to make money from their Facebook Live selling. With the beginning of MCO, many Malaysians are turning to Facebook Live to buy or auction some items. It can be from just any random items to even fresh fish. Some companies that I’ve known managed to earn more than what they earned prior to the MCO by using Facebook Live during the MCO.
Conclusion:
There are many types of people in the world that handle each situation differently during this difficult time. In the above scenarios, those are the people that have refused to give up & hustle their way into success during this period. Despite the difficulty that they are facing, they are working hard to ensure that they are able to be successful in this situation. While the world is recovering from the pandemic, we should not give up & keep working hard to ensure that we are successful in any sort of situation.
