My 2021 Preferred E-Wallet

Hello Grasshoppa,

In 2019, I have written a post on Which Is The Best E-Wallet in Malaysia based on my opinion. In my list, I added Fave as my number 1 option followed by GrabPay & Boost. Since the pandemic situation & other factors, I noticed that my e-wallet usage trend has also changed. I used to be a big fan of BigPay when they first launched, but over the years, they have made multiple changes & one of the main factors that reduce my usage with them is their limitation of top-up from RM5,000 to RM2,500 to RM1,000.

My previous goal with BigPay was simple, to collect as many BIG Points as possible & to earn cashback from Boost. Since they have changed their benefits, it has opened up the opportunity for some other e-wallet to take their place. As for now, my usage for BigPay has reduced to RM1,000 per month since it only allows me to top-up RM1,000 via credit card. From that RM1,000, RM400 is usually used to top up my e-wallets & another RM200 is for my HelloGold Smart Savings plan.

And also since the launch of Raiz in Malaysia, I have also converted some of my expenses from BigPay to my MBB debit card instead as I can round up my spare change into investments. As of my writing, I have invested over RM500 from the round-ups & RM50 direct debit investment.

The pandemic situation also has opened up opportunities for food delivery companies such as FoodPanda & GrabFood to strive. Comparing both companies, I prefer to use GrabFood over FoodPanda to order food unless GrabFood does not offer the food I want. Another reason why I prefer GrabFood over FoodPanda is the convenience of paying by using GrabPay. It is truly a seamless experience for me.

Comparing point rewards offered by both GrabPay & Boost, I personally prefer Boost as their rewards are much better. Over the years, I have been able to redeem Xiaomi Earbuds, Dettol Antiseptic & hand cream. The downside of the reward program is that it was handled by a third-party vendor where the service was bad & I had to wait for few weeks before they restocked the product I redeemed. GrabPay is much simpler, I just use their points in exchange for cash vouchers or GrabFood discounts. I have been able to save some money from my spending thanks to Grab rewards points.

With all that said, by now you may know which is my preferred e-wallet for 2021. My number 1 choice, for now, will definitely be GrabPay where I allocate RM300 per month followed by Boost & Touch&Go where I allocate RM50 each. With the recent launch of Go+ by Touch&Go, they are offering daily interest which is quite enticing for me. I have just registered a few days ago & I am still observing the benefits of it. I will update all of you once I fully explore the benefits.
