Apple Pay has recently been launched in Malaysia & we can now use Apple Pay as one of our payment modes for selected merchants for both your daily expenses, shopping & e-commerce shopping too. As of my writing, Apple Pay can only link selected cards which include Maybank (Debit & Credit Cards), AmBank (Credit Cards) & Standard Chartered Bank (Credit Cards).
As a holder of a Maybank debit card, I was actually very excited to get it registered due to its convenience of it. As long as they accept Apple Pay, all you have to do is to use your iPhone to make the payment & it will be charged directly to your card. It is that simple. Aside from using your iPhone, you can also pay with your iWatch. So instead of taking your credit card or debit card to make a payment, all you have to do is use your iPhone or iWatch to make a payment. Aside from tracking your transaction manually, you can check on your transaction & expenses by tapping into your card on the Wallet app.
One of the main features that I’ve enjoyed aside from the convenience of the payment is also the security of Apple Pay. All payments are secured with your Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. Your card details will not be shared with the merchant as well, compared to how you are paying directly with your card. Another good benefit is, that it is also widely accepted in many countries which means that you can travel & pay securely for all your expenses around the world. As long as the country & merchant accept Apple Pay, you can pay securely. The only thing you need to note is the fees that will occur for overseas payments, which vary based on different banks.
With the launch of Apple Pay in Malaysia, they have worked with multiple merchants such as KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Uniqlo & many others. Your online shopping is also made convenient with the partnership with Adidas, Shopee, Atome & few others.
Since Apple Pay is still new, I am very sure that we will be seeing more merchants being onboard with it & it will make your future payments with Apple Pay. Hopefully, more banks will also support Apple Pay in the future so other credit card holders from different banks can also enjoy using Apple Pay. Apple Wallet & Apple Pay are co-related in certain ways therefore in the future, you may also see more benefits of Apple Wallet being launched in Malaysia.
