How To Stay Motivated When Investing

Hello Grasshoppa,

Throughout my years of investing, there are times when investing can be boring especially when it becomes a routine. Don’t get me wrong. The whole point of investing is about making it a routine & automating it so that you are able to invest consistently based on your investment goals. It can also be demotivating especially when your investment is making a loss. These feelings are usually common among investors; however, some people are fine with that routine while others are not so much. For me, the routine itself can be less exciting especially when I know that a fixed amount of money will be invested in a few of my investment platforms each month. From time to time, I will find ways to stay motivated & find ways to keep it exciting aside from just sticking to my usual investing routine.

For those who find it demotivating, here are a few ideas to stay motivated when you invest.

1. Know Your Why When you start to invest, you have a clear goal on why you are investing. Always remind yourself of your why to keep yourself motivated.

2. Plan A Mini-Goal Each Year Another way to stay motivated is to always plan a mini goal each year. In my first few years of investing, I was doing it as part of allocating more money to invest each year but soon enough I realized that those mini-goals always kept me motivated. There are a few ways to work on a new mini goal each year by allocating more money to your existing investments or you can find new platforms to invest in.

3. Review & Recalibrate Each year, it is advisable to review your investment & recalibrate if needed to ensure that your investment portfolio is profitable over the long run. This will also keep you motivated each time you review & recalibrate your investment portfolio.

4. Learning New Things Learning something new plays an important role in our lives. No matter how old we are, we should always keep our minds open to learn new things. To keep yourself motivated when you invest, try picking up new books to read each year or look out for other media that can guide you on investing. I am sure you can find something exciting to learn & motivate you.

5. Visualise Your End Goal We can’t predict our future, but we can always visualize what we want it to be like. I always visualize mine as traveling & teaching BJJ around the world for free while living on a nice beach. When you visualize, you can truly feel motivated to keep going & stay consistent with your investment.

Conclusion:

It is important to stay motivated when you invest especially when you are doing it for the long term. Once you reach a point where it becomes a routine, you may be demotivated & eventually stop investing. Always remember your why & visualize your end goal to keep yourself motivated. These 5 ways on how to stay motivated when you invest will definitely help you to be motivated.
