My 4th Year As A Personal Finance Blogger. How Is My Journey So Far?

Hello Grasshoppa,

When I started BBM Blog, my main reasons were to share my personal finance journey towards my retirement & also as a guide to my readers out there. Over the years, I grew my blog from a small blog with a few readers to one of the top bloggers in Malaysia. Aside from trying my best to write the best content possible for all of you, I make sure that my writing is as consistent as possible with a new post each week. To be honest, it can be quite a challenge to have new content each week, especially after 4 years of writing with more than 200 posts. With my other new ventures & growing businesses, time is honestly my worst enemy despite trying to utilize as much time as possible but committing to writing 1 blog post each week is a must.

What Are My Changes So Far?

BBM Blog:

For my blog, I am happy that it is growing consistently each year with a good number of readers reading my post each week. You guys are the reason why I am motivated each week to write a new post. My referral income has been stagnant for the past 1 year. Perhaps I did not promote it as much as I should have but as long as I earn enough to cover the cost of maintaining this blog, I am grateful. Aside from being able to consistently have good traffics from my readers, I have also managed to collaborate with some of the big brands out there. My biggest collaboration so far is where I am one of the panelists alongside Suraya from Ringgit Oh Ringgit & Roshan Kanesan from RinggitPlus in a recent HSBC webinar event. I was approached many times by different investment platforms over the years but I accepted to collaborate with some & I rejected some due to my belief in their platforms. Since BBM is a blog where I will only share what I invest in or those investment platforms that are approved by the Securities Commission of Malaysia, I will usually reject collaboration opportunities with those platforms that I don’t personally believe in or approved by the Securities Commission of Malaysia.

My Business Venture:

My gym & finger tape business also grew over the years. My gym business was always a stable business for me & thankfully, we are still able to break even during the FMCO/lockdown period. My finger tape business was bad during the FMCO/lockdown but it is currently doing well after the lockdown was lifted. Black Belt Tape’s recent success is when we sponsored Malaysian SEA Games jiu-jitsu athletes for their upcoming 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam.

YouTube Channel:

I launched a YouTube channel where I am sharing BJJ-related videos & also personal finance & investment-related. It was active during the FMCO/lockdown period as I am able to spend lots of time at home shooting & editing videos. After the FMCO was lifted, I am still seeking to find more time to edit some of my pending videos.

My FIRE Journey:

Despite being occupied with various jobs, collaboration & business, I am moving closer to my Financial Independent, Retire Early (FIRE) Journey. My personal wealth has increased over the years alongside my investment fund. I am turning 35 years old this year & sticking to my goal of retiring at 40 years old, I truly believe that I am able to achieve it in 5 years to come.

What Have I Learned?

4 years of being a blogger, I am always motivated to write consistently after seeing the impact that I am able to bring to some of you. Being able to write what I observe, my journey, my thoughts & ideas are truly helpful for me towards many of my own personal finance decision on a daily basis. Investing our money is important for our future but I learn that investing in ourselves is equally as important as investing our money. Investing in ourselves including eating right, gaining new knowledge but also enhancing our skills is important.

What’s Next?

For BBM Blog, I truly hope to have more readers reading my posts & I hope that my writing can add value & entertain you at the same time. I also hope that there will be more engagement between us so we can learn from each other. As for myself, I truly strive to be able to upgrade myself by becoming a better version of myself including my wealth, health, skills & knowledge. Hopefully, by this year, I am able to travel overseas & compete in BJJ again.
