Why I Invest In Stocks

Hello Grasshoppa,

There are times where I am having a dilemma on whether or not my investment journey is really worth it. Can I really achieve my goal of having financial freedom? Or will all my financial sacrifices account for nothing? Each month, I will be allocating a chunk of my money to invest into PRS, stocks, StashAway and gold. That has resulted in me having a lesser amount of money to spend on stuff that I want but not what I need. For example, I’ve been considering changing my car for almost 5 years but it has never happened. My old car has been with me for 12 years & there are minor issues here & there with the car. I am tempted to change but knowing that it will affect my investment has stopped me from making that decision.

Dont Tempt Me Frodo

Investment journey can be really boring since it grows gradually and steadily but I’m really glad that all of you are with me along this journey. Just by you guys following my blog have motivated me to keep on writing each week.

Why I Invest In Stocks?

1. To Fund My Retirement Goal
Since day 1 of writing BBM, my goal has always been the same. To retire by the age of 40 . I’ve mentioned this many times in my writing Is it possible to achieve it? I honestly have no idea but I believe that my investment income is able to generate me some income via dividend when I’m officially retired.

2. It Is An Easy Way To Earn Money
Yes, it is easy but don’t get me wrong. When I say easy, I am referring to the point where you buy stocks & allow the compounding interest to do the work or as a shareholder of a public listed company, I have the CEO of my company to work for me & I get paid dividend as the shareholder of the company. Remember to conduct thorough studies to ensure that you invest in the right companies.

3. I Am Able To Be Part Of A Successful Business Without Having to Build It From Scratch
As an owner of two businesses, I understand the stress of building a company from scratch. It can be tiring & challenging but exciting at the same time. Is it that easy to build a business from scratch to a successful one? I personally think that it’s hard but investing in stocks allow you to own a successful business by you buying the company stocks.

4. It Can Be Cheaper Than Starting My Own Business
Starting a business can be very expensive. Imagine if I would like to franchise  7 Eleven, it will cost me around RM250,000 or more. But buying 7 Eleven stocks can be as cheap as RM150. Instead of franchising the store, I can actually own some share of 7 Eleven Malaysia. That makes me a shareholder of 7 Eleven Malaysia store where I can attend the company Annual General Meeting (AGM) & get paid in the form of dividend as the shareholder of the company.

5. Professionally Managed Business
Being a shareholder of a public listed company also means that there will be business professionals managing these companies. The business professionals are able to handle & grow the business for the shareholders of those companies.

6. Extra Source Of Income / Emergency Fund
I have been investing for many years now. My investment journey has been nothing a but sweet journey thus far. I am able to generate extra income from it & it also provides me with emergency fund just in case I need it. All I have to do is to sell at profit or loss if I ever need the amount of money.

More Money To Make Now

Conclusion :

Some people used to say this to me that “You are not able to carry your money to your grave so why do you want to keep it or invest?” This pandemic has really shown me the importance of having extra cash. My savings & investments have helped me through this tough times especially for my business where I am able to move my gym & fund for the gym upgrade. Aside from that, I am also able to fund my other business with my savings & investments. Some people have asked me, how did I survive financially during the pandemic, I have to credit that partly to my 9-5 job & also those savings that I’ve been setting aside throughout the years. The planning that I have done over the years has really helped me. During this time, I am also able to buy more stocks with that extra income that I have made and I am grateful everyday for making the choice to invest.
