My 2023 Goal & What Are The Significant Changes Moving Forward

Hello Grasshoppa,

In my last week’s post, I shared my 2022 wrap-up. In this week’s post, I will be sharing mainly my 2023 goals & what are my significant plans moving forward. Setting a goal & executing it is not the easiest task especially when life is unpredictable. No one actually knows what will happen tomorrow but with a proper plan, it will make our life & goals so much smoother.

In my 2023 goals, I have broken my goals into 8 parts consisting of my wealth, personal life & also my work. Each of the goals is equally important to one another which you can refer as below:

1. Wealth
When it comes to wealth, it is important to have an increase in income each year & with the increase in income, that also means that my monthly investment needs to be increased. I have adjusted my monthly investment amount effective December 2022 into a higher amount for platforms such as StashAway & HelloGold. That is mainly for the fixed monthly investment amount that I have allocated for platforms such as FSMOne, StashAway, Raiz & HelloGold. As for stock investment, I will still be investing it randomly depending on my savings amount. The minimum amount that I planned to invest for 2023 in stocks will be at least RM10,000. Since I am trying to automate all my investments in 2022, I have invested less in stocks and more in the platform that allows my investment to be automated. Compare to 2021 when I am investing on monthly basis in stocks, the reason why I am making such changes is also for the convenience of automation since the investment return are quite similar. But, I don’t plan to sell any of my stocks investment anytime soon since I am still earning from the dividends & I am treating it as my business where I am the shareholder of those public listed companies. Aside from investment, I am also looking into earning more income from my side hustle which I will be covering more in the next part.

2. Growing My Business
In 2022, I opened my gym’s second branch on the mainland of Penang. The second branch plays an important role for me to grow my passion & the team. Although income is part of the drive, my main goal for my gym is mainly my passion for martial arts & the team. It requires equal commitment from my other partners, coaching team & members to grow it to the next level. Aside from my gym, my finger tape business is booming in 2022 & we even sponsored our National Jiu-Jitsu team in the 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam. I hope the business can continue to grow so I can contribute my part back to the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) community.

3. Compete & Travel To More Countries
BJJ has brought me to different countries in the past & I hope that I can compete in more countries in 2023. So far I have competed in both Thailand, Malaysia & Japan & in 2023, hopefully, I can compete in the Philippines, Japan, Thailand & Europe. Competing in different countries not only allows me to expose to different cultures but also allows me to expand my network & explore those countries.

4. Pay At Least RM50,000 For My House Mortgage
In 2022, I spent almost RM50,000 on my house renovation. Although it is in phases but the total expenditure is almost RM50,000. In 2023, I plan to pay RM50,000 for my house mortgage loan on top of my existing mortgage payment to shorten my mortgage payment which I aim to pay it off within 7 years.

5. Going Fully Remote
I consider my current job to be semi-remote as I am working most of the time from home but I am still limited from traveling outside of the country. In 2023, I am looking to explore a fully remote opportunity to also allow me to travel & explore more countries around the world while acquiring more BJJ knowledge & compete actively.

6. Acquiring More Knowledge
This involves all knowledge from financial literacy, investments, BJJ, sports & also self-development skills. In whatever I am doing, I will need to upskill myself & my knowledge to be a better version of myself.

7. Health
I have recently made changes in my meal where I am eating 90% clean meals compared to the previous when I did not care about my food intake. As a result, I have lost 5kg & my overall sports performance has improved too. Aside from food, I have also made changes in the way I work out by adding more effective workouts to help with my performance & recovery. I will also look into a healthier sleep cycle where I will try to achieve 8 hours of sleep daily & also on my mental health where I am looking towards a healthier work environment.

8. BBM Blog & Other Ventures
BBM readers are consistent each year & we are getting an average of 4,000-5,000 readers each month. I hope that this year we can increase it to at least 10,000 readers each month & I will also relook into resuming my YouTube channel for both personal finance & BJJ techniques.

Conclusion:

2023 also marks my 36th birthday and I will be celebrating it in the month of July & it is also 4 years before my actual planned retirement at 40 years old. Ideally, I think that it is best for me gradually shift my life toward my retirement goal in 2023 rather than go through significant changes at 40 years old. The most important step is to start now rather than later & I am ready to execute my 2023 plan.
